We both grew up on the internet and participating in fandoms, so this week we decided to take a walk down memory lane by describing some of our early involvement as fans of books, tv and movies. Then, we delve into then vs. now: what has changed in terms of being a fan? How have fandom communities evolved? And… just why did it evolve so quickly? Being a fan used to mean you traveled to a con once a year or discussed something you loved with a few close friends in hushed tones around the lunch table; today, it’s an accepted and celebrated part of our everyday, mainstream culture. Let’s get to the heart of what it means to be a fan!
